Sahil Gupta : 1. Stay positive and optimist.
2. Improve writing skills.

CSC : When did you start preparation for the IAS Examination? When should one ideally begin thinking about preparing for this exam?
Sahil Gupta : I started during IVth year of my B.Tech. One should start from 2nd and 3rd year of graduation.
CSC : How did you start preparation for the IAS Examination?
Sahil Gupta : Reading basic NCERT and Chronicle magazines.
CSC : What were your strategies for the lengthy syllabus of General Studies for both Prelims and Mains?
Sahil Gupta : Making hand written short and concise notes for better revision.
CSC : What was your optional? What were the basis of selecting that?
Sahil Gupta : Political Science & IR, purely interest based.
CSC : Tell us something about preparation of essay paper.
Sahil Gupta : Content derived from GS and work on language, interlinkage & presentation.
CSC : How did you manage your time in both prelims and mains examinations?
Sahil Gupta : Set small and realistic targets which are feasible and attainable.
CSC : Which is the most difficult part of this exam and why? What was your strategy to tackle this difficult part?
Sahil Gupta : Prelims : Since questions can be asked from any subject and current affairs. I read extensively and used internet.
CSC : Did you integrate your Prelims or Mains preparation or was it separate?
Sahil Gupta : Both are integral and holistic.
CSC : Did you prepare notes? How helpful are the notes? What is your advice on notes-making?
Sahil Gupta : Yes, very helpful. I would not have succeeded without them. So, prepare your notes - concise, crisp and hand written.
CSC : What are your suggestions for freshers who want to join coaching institutes for preparation?
Sahil Gupta : Personal decision. Coaching does guide and help only to a degree rest is self-help.
CSC : What was your style of writing in the exam ? How was it distinct from the general writing style ? How did you develop this writing style ?
Sahil Gupta : I understood the question and then wrote in points or paragraph form accordingly. Language - simple & crisp.
CSC : Civil Services Exam process is quite strenuous. It requires long hours of constant study. How did you maintain your tempo and what did you do to break the monotony of preparation ?
Sahil Gupta : I relaxed by watching football, reading poetry and listening to ghazal.
CSC : The trend suggests that professionals are more successful in this exam. Does this exam prove difficult for Humanities and Social Science background candidates ?
Sahil Gupta : No, this exam has level playing field.
CSC : What should be the best strategy to tackle negative marking ?
Sahil Gupta : Use elimination technique & improve your accuracy by practicing and joining test series.
CSC : Which type of questions were asked in interview ? Did you answer them all ?
Sahil Gupta : No, my questions were from my profile. IR, Civil Engineering, Home state and hobbies.

Sahil Gupta : My parent s commitment, support from family, God s grace.
CSC : What is your advice to the freshers who are going to appear for this exam ?
Sahil Gupta : Start preparation early. Don t panic seeing the syllabus.
CSC : What is your advice to the candidates who have failed in this exam ?
Sahil Gupta : Don t lose hope. Life is about moving forward. Identify your weaknesses and use them as stepping stone.
CSC : Since when have you began reading Civil Services Chronicle magazine? What are your suggestions to make it more useful for civil service aspirants ?
Sahil Gupta : Since the beginning of my preparation. Coverage is comprehensive. Keep up the good work.
